You may recall the video or the FP post a while back about this idiotic trend.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I drove over to Simi Valley, CA last night to visit my parents, and on my way into town, the kid behind me, in a modified 4th gen Honda Civic, popped his steering wheel off and hung it out the window while his car was in motion. He kept toying with it, trying to get people to notice, glancing furtively into his rearview mirror the whole time.
I hadn't heard anything about this moronic trend since the FP article, so I was disappointed to see someone doing this firsthand.
The sad thing is, the Civic looked pretty good for a late 80's car. It looked like it had a widebody kit installed and it was tastefully lowered, and up until the driver removed the steering wheel, I thought he was doing a great job as a safe driver - keeping a safe following distance, smooth power and brakes, and he wasn't using a cell phone. That respect went out the window at about the same time his steering wheel did.
No SR20 because I was driving my car and the last thing I wanted was an additional distraction in case I had to dodge a jackass without a steering wheel.

This is how to make it stop.
1. Drive up along side.
2. Have passenger reach out and grab wheel
3. Apply brakes, collect wheel, head home, hang on garage wall as a trophy.
4. Repeat.

I don't think I'll ever understand the look at me culture. I'd love to see someone doing this reported to their insurance company.
But then again, if they were dropped they'd probably just ride around without any.
